Speaker for October 20th Meeting – Elmire Raven, Domestic Violence

Screen Shot 2015-10-13 at 10.41.20 AMFor the October 20th meeting, we will welcome fellow Rotarian Elmire Raven, Executive Director of My Sister’s House, and a strong survivor of domestic violence, as our speaker.   My Sister’s House, Inc. is a nonprofit organization founded in 1980 that provides services, programs, and resources to empower domestic violence victims and their children to live free from abuse.  The organization operates an emergency temporary shelter at an undisclosed location for up to 36 women and children who flee abusive situations in Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester counties in South Carolina.  Elmire received a Bachelor of Social Work and Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Georgia State University, as well as a Masters in Counseling from Webster University.  She has received many honors and awards and has held numerous leadership positions on various boards including President of the East Cooper Breakfast Rotary Club (ECBRC) in 2011-2012.  She is a member of the Berkeley County First Step Board, East Cooper SCANA (SCE&G) Board, and a current trustee board chairperson and financial secretary of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant.
