The East Cooper Breakfast Rotary Club will meet Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at 7:30 a.m. in The Cooper River Room at the Mount Pleasant Waterfront Park. We are pleased to have Captain Taylor Skardon, US Navy, (Retired) and Chair of the Navy League Commissioning Committee, as our guest speaker. Breakfast catered by Dish and Design Catering and Events.
After graduating from the Citadel in 1982, Taylor Skardon received a commission in the Navy where he served for 30 years as a Surface Warfare Officer.
While in the Navy, Captain Skardon’s assignments at sea included duty in the Spruance class destroyers DEYO (DD 989) and NICHOLSON (DD 982) – both homeported in Charleston, SC. He served in the AEGIS Cruisers LAKE ERIE as the commissioning Engineer Officer and USS VICKSBURG (CG 69) as its Executive Officer. He commanded the Arleigh Burke destroyer USS OKANE (DDG 77).
Ashore Captain Skardon’s served as an instructor at the United States Naval Academy, action officer on the Navy Staff, detailer at the Navy’s Bureau of Naval Personnel, the Senate Director for the Secretary of Defense, and Commanding Officer of the Naval Base PEARL HARBOR. Captain Skardon’s final tour was as a Special Assistant to the Commander, United States Pacific Command at Camp Smith Hawaii.
Taylor and his wife, Nancy, returned to Charleston and The Citadel after retiring in 2012. He served as General Rosa’s Executive Assistant before becoming an adjunct faculty member.
In addition to his bachelor’s degree from The Citadel, Captain Skardon earned master’s degrees in Information Management from The George Washington University and National Security Strategy from The National War College.
