Hurricane Relief Funds

Severe rainfall after Hurricane Harvey hit the Texas coast has caused historic flooding in that area, including in Houston, the fourth largest city by population in the United States. Deluged towns in the region are in desperate need of aid as thousands of residents were forced to flee their homes. About 6.8 million people have been affected by the hurricane.

The East Cooper Breakfast Rotary Club will be donating $2500 to Rotary District 5910 in Beaumont, TX. We are asking our membership and friends to match the donation. Checks may be payable to East Cooper Breakfast Rotary Club and mailed to PO Box 1876 Mount Pleasant, SC 29465.

Additional Disaster Relief Efforts from Hurricanes Harvey and Irma

Texas and Louisiana are just beginning what we know will be a long road to recovery after Hurricane Harvey.  Meanwhile, Hurricane Irma moved through the Caribbean, Florida, Georgia, and along the Atlantic coastline.  While the District avoided the direct impact as originally thought, SC Counties Jasper, Beaufort, and Colleton were evacuated.  There were also impacts from wind and rain as a result of being in the right quadrant of the storm.  While we do not know the full impacts of the storm within our District, we do know that many Rotarians, families, and friends have been impacted by the storm.  When disaster strikes, Rotarians reach out and ask how they can help.

To that end, I have re-established the District’s Disaster Fund at the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry, number 474 (a 501 c 3 instrument) and our partnership with the Salvation Army.  This will allow Rotarians and our friends to respond to the immediate needs and support of those impacted, as we had done during Hurricane Matthew.  Financial donations can be made by sending checks to the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry at 4 Northridge Drive, Suite A, and PO Box 23019, Hilton Head Island, SC 29925.  Please indicate Rotary Fund # 474 in the memo area of the checks.  A donor can use a credit card by using the Community Foundation’s website,, then click on Donate Now in the top right corner. In the Select Fund field, select or type in “Rotary District 7770 Disaster Fund” then proceed with requested information. Using this mechanism will allow us to speed up the delivery of our aid to those impacted.

Rotary International has also set up procedures to help within both hurricane disaster areas as well.  Leaders in North America have responded by making two Donor Advised Funds under The Rotary Foundation available to accept contributions for hurricane relief: The Gulf Coast Disaster Relief DAF was established to assist communities devastated by Hurricane Harvey. The Hurricane Emergency Relief DAF is accepting contributions for Hurricane Irma disaster recovery.

If you would like to help through one of these instruments, please go to the following link: You can contribute online with a credit card or follow the instructions for contributions by check or wire transfer. You will need to provide the specific name of the Rotary Foundation Donor Advised Fund and the account number.
Enter: The Gulf Coast Disaster Relief DAF, Account Number 608
OR: Hurricane Emergency Relief DAF, Account Number 296

Please share this information with your fellow Rotarians and Rotary Friends.  If you have any questions about either of these procedures, contact DGE David Tirard (, District 7770 Disaster Relief focal point or
