The East Cooper Breakfast Rotary Club donated $5000 last week to a special project in Peru organized by Water Missions International. Nina Rumi is a community in Peru that was the base for a group called Amazon Medical Missions. Mission groups traveled there to focus on areas on the Amazon river. The original founders retired and the campus was sold in 2011. Jerry French, who had previously done work with that mission decided along with others to open a new campus in that same area. Catch the Vision obtained the land and built the campus with a focus on serving the local community as well. This water project will serve not only the campus but the 1100 residents of Nina Rumi! During the initial assessment the water was found to have excessive levels of iron. Engineers designed a system that would remove the iron to an acceptable level prior to treating.
To date the well has been bored, the well / treatment house / tank tower is close to being completed! The next steps will be to install the treatment system that was designed. They should have clean and safe drinking water in June!
