Rotary-Youth-Exchange-ProductsHave you ever considered volunteering as a host family for the Rotary Youth Exchange? We need your help. Due to a change in circumstances, we have an immediate need to identify a host family for a female Rotary Youth Exchange Student from Peru. She is 18 and speaks reasonably good English. She will attend Wando High School and will be here from December 2014-March 6, 2015.

Please contract Andra Watkins (andra@positusonline.com) or Lou Mello (LouMello1@loumello.onmicrosoft.com) to volunteer.

The 2nd Annual Oktoberfest 5K Run/Walk brought out 250 runners and walkers along with many more attendees for the after party.

The event benefits Toys for Tots and the Rotary Youth Exchange Program. Perfect weather and a great venue starting and ending at the Sweetgrass Pavilion underneath the Ravenel Bridge created an excellent setting complete with music by a German band, beer on tap provided by Westbrook Brewery and Palmetto Brewing Co. and plenty of bratwurst prepared in outstanding fashion by our friends from ServiceMaster of Charleston. A big thank you goes out to Lawton Hayes and his crew for all of their hard work with the event.

We want to thank our chairman for the event, Mike Bloser, for putting together such an awesome event. Wearing his Lederhosen, Mike really gave this party authenticity. Thanks for all of your hard work Mike. Through your efforts, the event hopes to net around $5,000 for the charities. Thanks to all of the volunteers who helped make this event a success.

A special thanks to Rob Fowler with News 2 for reporting the weather from the event. Their support helped boost attendance.

We also would like to thank our great sponsors that include ADC Engineering, Inc., American Drug Testing, Bank of South Carolina, Barnwell, Whaley, Patterson & Helms LLC, Division Five, Earthsource Engineering, Engineered Foundations, Glaucoma Consultants, Goodwill Industries, Dr. Jill Aiken, John Albrecht, Law Offices of Peter S. Smith PLLC, Legare, Bailey & Hinske, Michael Schmitt, McQuire & Co, LLC, Palmetto Construction, Pile Drivers, Raising Cane’s, SCE&G, ServiceMaster of Charleston, Stubbs Muldrow Herin architects, inc, The Hoove LLC, Try Sports and Walmart.
